Password Management

Passwords are the basic security mechanisms that authenticate individuals as eligible to use School resources. The username and password also authorize individuals to perform specific actions based on the identity of the user, such as permitting students to drop classes or faculty to view class lists. Passwords should be  difficult to guess and should not be written down.

Additional tips include:

  • Avoid middle names, phone numbers, pet names, variations on the username (login name), or any word that is found in a dictionary – forward or backwards (dictionary searches can be automated).
  • Select one that is at least six characters in length and contains a mix of upper-and-lower case letters along with numbers and punctuation.
  • Change your password on a regular basis. Never re-use a password, and never share a password.
